Supporting Learners with Autism

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 59 children has a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by age 8. With such prevalent rates of diagnosis, the question for educators becomes how to effectively meet the needs of these learners in the school setting. In this course we will explore the hallmark characteristics of ASD, current research on causes and potential cures, and supports that have proven successful in the school setting in relation to social, behavioral, academic and emotional gains. This course is open to anyone who is interested in expanding his/her knowledge of this medical diagnosis.
